Greater Cairo Metro Line 2
Located in Cairo Egypt, the 18.5 km long route of Metro Line 2 connects Shubra El-Kheima station in the north of the city with the Giza suburban railway station in the southwest. The route of Line 2 is a newly constructed line in its entirety, thus this line encompasses different forms of construction:
The construction of Line 2 comprised two phases:
Phase (I): From Shubra El-Kheima to Tahrir Square.
Phase (II): From Tahrir Square to Giza suburban station near El-Moneeb Square.

- On-grade for 3.50 km
- Underground viaduct for 2.20 km
- Cut and cover tunnel for 1.80 km
- Bored tunnel for 11.0 km using shield-driven tunneling technique
- Annex structures between underground stations
